Cold, Cough and Upper Respiratory Infection

It is recommended that you seek medical help immediately from your local emergency room or urgent care facility. Failure to do so could result in serious side effects such as meningitis, eye infections or abscesses, blindness and even death.

Based on your current described symptoms there is concern for a “strep throat” infection or a complication of a strep throat infection. Individuals at risk of strep throat need to be seen by a health care provider for further evaluation. They may perform a throat swab or culture. This is a condition caused by a type of bacteria (Streptococcus) and rarely can lead to further complications including kidney damage and abdominal problems if left untreated. We recommend you schedule a visit with a health care provider at your earliest convenience.

You have other symptoms that are not consistent with a simple cold or upper respiratory viral infection – including nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain, or body aches/joint pain. We recommend you contact a health care provider to follow up on these symptoms at your earliest convenience.

We recommend you see a health care provider at your earliest convenience. If you notice you are losing consciousness, feeling lightheaded or feel like you are going to “pass out,” you should get medical help as soon as possible. This might include going to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care or even calling 9-1-1.

Based on your description or risk factors associated with your cough we believe you need to be evaluated by a health care provider for pertussis or “whooping cough.” This cough is caused by bacteria and easily contagious. The disease can spread to family members, especially children, putting their health at risk. We recommend you see a health care provider in person to better diagnose and treat your condition.
